Think about it, what you need for a good run. A good pair of shoes. Possibly good weather day. And good tunes. How can you listen to those good tunes? You will need a good mp3 player or an Ipod. Plus, you will need a good set of running headphones.
In fact, many runners will tell you if asked that their headphones is an essential part to their tools. Did you know that most marathon runners do all their running (including training) while listening to their own downloaded music on an Ipod or mp3 player through their own comfortable set of headphones.
Now picture this. It is a clear day. The sun is shining. It is warm; but it isn't hot. You feel like you can run for hours. But without some good music and a good set of headphones to listen to that music, you may soon become bored. This may mean you will soon want to quit your run.
Think about this, too. Without a good set of headphones, the outside world will be heard. Sure you will hear the pleasant sounds of the chirping birds. This is a sound you may like. But even this sound may grow tiresome. Yet, you will hear other sounds.
Will you be running in a park? There can be barking dogs, screaming children, screaming parents, sounds of the driving cars, horns, other people's music (including the kind you do not like), plus various other noises that can soon distract you.
If you are planning to run on the streets, than the noise level can and will increase. You will be hearing more traffic sounds, more screaming people and various other noises.
This all makes sense to you. Yet, you don't understand why you need to purchase an actual set of headphones that are described as runner's headphones. Why can't you use the little earbuds that came with your mp3 player or Ipod?
You could use them. But will they actually stay in place as well as runner's headphones? Just imagine how your run could be ruin if you have to keep stopping to adjust your headphones or if they actually fall off of your ears. This may even be worse than having to hear all the distractions in the first place.
Runner's headphones are unique because they are made for people who are not only on the move, but people who are moving quickly. These are people who are generally exercising, running, biking, hiking or even speed walking.
Runner's headphones are made to be more secure on a person's head. They do come in the form of earbuds because many runners prefer this method. One reason is that they are smaller than regularly headphones.

The hook keeps the earbud in place as the runner continues with his/her exercise routine and has no worries of it falling. Other manufactures of runner’s headphones will attach foam covers to the earbuds. These foam covers will help keep the buds in place and avoid slippage. This is a less expensive alternative than buying the earbuds that are equipped with hooks.
Slippage is most runners’ first concern when it comes to finding a good pair of running headphones. Yet, comfort is also an issue. If the headphones hurt, you won't want them on your ears for long periods of time.
Then there is the sound quality. Yes, you want to be able to hear your tunes well. You also want your tunes to have clarity, no static, etc. But remember if you are running outside you also need to be able to hear part of the sounds around you. Sure you want to sound out most of those screaming children, barking dogs and annoying horns. Yet, you need hear if someone is calling your name, calling out in distress, etc.
Some runners may also wonder if name brand headphones are better than the generic. This is always debatable. Many runners seem to be really happy with headphones made by such companies as: Sony, Nike, Maxwell, Jabra and Phillips. Yet, many people love the Phillips just as well. Then there are the people who love the makers of the Sleep hones and the runners who are quite happy with the simple earbuds that come equipped with their current IPods or Mp3players. Every runner is different and each runner may give you a different opinion of the brand they like.
Add to your own running tools and buy a good pair of runner’s headphones today because if there is one thing that most runners will agree on it is this. It isn't the weather that can ruin a good run; it is a bad pair of runner’s headphone.
