• Sony MDR-7509HD Taking To another Realm

Posted on April 30th, 2008 Headphones Video No comments

Through the years if you ask anyone who has bought a number of Sony headphones they will tell you the MDR-V6 was one of the best pair ever made. In fact, many people still swear by them today. This is why the MDR-7509HD is as important as they look to build on that model and take users to a different realm. Did they accomplish this or not? Read further and you may be surprised by the answer to that question and see how well these really perform.

Sony’s MDR-7509HD on first glance do look very nice and have a higher end price so I was expecting a lot from this set of headphones and on first glance they do not look disappointing. One thing I do like is the nice satin box they will come in and instructions to replace parts if they ever need replacing which I do not see there being a need for that though.  First feel and you will notice the heavy padding in the ear cups and the headband, which is a nice touch since I will be using this lot. This model was designed to reflect on better more accurate sounds thus the frequency response of 80 kHz was added to this model. Sony headphones for a number of years have tried to really make inroads in the HD market end and this model is the one to help them reach that market. If first impressions are what they measure it by than they should do well it seems.

The 7509HD are circumaural type of headphones, which mean they fit totally around your ears. Many companies have tight fitting headphones, but these fit almost perfectly and let your ears breathe which is something I like a lot. The design makes the sounds reach your ears in a slow but steady pattern for more true sounds than ever before. The 7509HD can fold up and have a real nice feature that you rarely see on a more expensive model and that is the ability to rotate 180 degrees, which is handy for one ear DJ style listening if that is what you want to do. The one beef I do have with most headphones and even Sony sometimes forgets about is putting to short of a cord on. No worries here as you get plenty of cord to stretch out and move around a little which is nice. The also have to cord coiled so it also makes it look shorter than it really is and for the most part it is tangle free which is something that I really like.

One thing that you will want to remember about this set of headphones and that is where you plug them into. Many times if you plug them into inferior audio equipment, you will not get the sound quality you like. It actually will find all the imperfections in your audio equipment, which in my eyes is something I like. You definitely can tell these are of quality studio once they are plug into quality equipment. I plugged them into my cheap MP3 player and it was not great, but once it hit the home stereo it was a whole another story. The sounds that came from these were great and beyond my expectations. It really does not matter which type of music you put through it great sounds is what you will be getting. It is not heavy bass loaded either and you will get a good mixture of tones that usually is not present in most headphones you buy. If you like a variety of sounds than grab these.

You can put this model through all the tests and you will find out the same thing I did these perform very well and probably will be one of the big hits in the Sony lineup. With a price that most people can reach, look for this to be the new V6 of the headphone market. These are comfortable, light for their size and give you some great sounds. Most people tend not to look at these headphones for various reasons, but with this release, they will have to start looking now. These fold up and become very portable so you will be able to take them with you. Just remember they do not work well on inferior equipment so have good equipment and you will hear sounds that you never knew existed before. These can compete with anything out on the market right now without having to word about anything.

  • JVC HA FX33B Headphones Low-End Buy High End Performance

Posted on April 29th, 2008 Headphones Video 2 comments

People are always on the lookout for a product that produces awesome sound at a low-end price, but it is getting much tougher to find than ever before. Along though comes the JVC FX33B, which could definitely change the way you think about it. This set of headphones is very low-cost and has had some impressive reviews so far, but read a little further to see if it is as good as they say.

Most headphones that you test never produce the kind of sound quality you hope for so I really did not expect a lot from the FX33B. This binaural type headphone looks pretty normal like most others on the market so I did not really expect a lot. A gold plated plug though was a nice touch, which means you will get a good connection, which is something that you are always looking for.  It has a response bandwidth of 8-23,000 Hz and sensitivity of 90 db/mW which is pretty much standard with other in this arena so nothing earth shattering to say the least. All the numbers you crunch looks like this should be just another normal set of headphones, but it is not. Once you put them on and listen, you will be able to tell what I am talking about.

The FX33B is geared to a market on the low-end who need a replacement for their ear buds and want to try something a little different than before. The first thing you will notice is a good fit into your ears. It seems it is getting harder to find a set of ear buds that have a good fit. These come with replaceable ear tips that make you getting a good fit much easier than you would imagine. Most people worry about how comfortable they will be and I had no comfort issues at all and I wore them for hours and felt no problems at all. Usually with these low-end sets of headphones comfort is an issue, but the JVC model has been able to make it a non-issue, which means this is just another great reason to buy this set of headphones.

Sound quality is something that I worry about when you talk about a low-end product, but trust me that will not be a problem at all with this model that is for sure. I got plenty of response from this model and if you love bass than this is definitely a set of headphones that you will want to purchase. More and more people love bass response so these will be right up there alley. As far as through the entire musical spectrum I felt these did a very good job with plenty of sound from the low range all the way up to higher ranges when needed. The sound quality was much better than I had anticipated so I must commend JVC on a job well done in that area.

Many people compare these to headphones costing much more and I do. These are very affordable and if you are looking for a new set of headphones, but do not want to spend a lot of money then the JVC FX33B is something that you should look into. You will get great sounds and a very comfortable pair of ear buds to wear. The main thing is even if you do tear them up they cost so little getting another pair will be no problem at all. They also block some of the outside noise, which is something I really like. It does not block out everything, which I do not expect it to, but it does block out some. For the price, it does a very good job in all aspects and should do well in the marketplace especially with a low-end price.

Overall, can you find a better sounding set of headphones? The answer is yes. Can you find a more comfortable set of headphones? The answer is yes to that as well. The thing the JVC FX33B brings you is something most set of headphones do not and that is a quality good sounding headphone at a very affordable price. No longer are you stuck with just one set of headphones for multiple applications. You can buy many different pairs, because the price is on the very low-end which makes it great for adults and kids alike. JVC has a winner with this model and if you need an extra set look no further than the FX33B.

  • Sony MDR-NC40 Cuts the Noise at an Affordable Price

Posted on April 28th, 2008 Headphones Video No comments

One of the things anymore in the headphone market that seems to be lost is lower end products that do an excellent job. Most companies it seems want to make high products that are very good, but the average consumer really cannot afford it. The Sony NC40 has come to the rescue with a good entry price, but can it perform against the stiff competition that it will run into. Read further and you may be surprised just how well it does against the competition.

Sony has always made a good lineup of headphones so checking out the NC40 was something that I wanted to do. Most companies today are releasing products on the high-end scale which not every consumer has that kind of money so this was a nice touch to tests something more affordable for the consumer. The NC40 is a supra-aural set of headphones meaning that they set on top of the ear without creating a seal like most models may do. This does not cause any problem as far as comfort as the ear cups are well padded and this set fits well. With only a weight of 2.8 ounces, you will not be burden with something bulky on your head, which is something many people hate including me. The entire design is black and simple, but with a nice sleek look that should appeal to almost everyone who gets to try a pair on.

One of the things I really like is the battery design in the Sony NC40, as it does not have the standard rechargeable type like most companies go with. It goes with one AAA battery, which will give you around 40 hours of life. It is much easier to just carry spare batteries in my opinion than worry about trying to find a place to recharge a unit all the time. This is one change that I am glad Sony has done. Another great touch that I really like is you can use the unit with or without the noise cancellation feature to save battery life. Many companies will not let you do that so that is another plus on this model that I really do like. At times, you may not want to use the noise cancellation features so the switch lets you decide which something more companies is should do in the future. Sony has taken the lead it seems which is a nice touch.

Portability is another thing that is usually high on people’s list and this model ranks right up there on that take as well. It comes with a compact carrying case so you will be able to take it with you wherever you may happen to go. Now let us see how well this model actually does perform and if it is worth what they are asking for it. Noise cancellation qualities on the NC40 are very good. In fact, I will admit they are much better than I thought they would be. Most units that I see only do an okay job, but this model did much better than I could have asked for so I was very impressed with the noise reduction that I seen from this model. Not the best I have ever tried, but definitely will do the job.

Sound quality no matter what anyone tells you is many times what will make and break a product. The Sony NC40 has outstanding quality especially for what you are paying for it. Many people have to remember your not paying top dollar for this pair of headphones and you still get outstanding quality sound. Low-end sound to high -end is something you will like with plenty of bass sound that will keep any type of music lover happy that is for sure.

Overall, the Sony NC40 will leave you with a very good impression. Sound quality is very good and the noise cancellation effects are not too bad either. If you are looking to test the waters with a set of headphones that will not break your bank account, but still give you the opportunity to enjoy your music than look no further than the NC40 from Sony. With a lower price than most, that it will go up against this model should find a niche with no problems at all. If you have never bought a set of headphones this one maybe a good place to start as you get many great things in one package. In today’s market of headphones that is getting much tougher to do than ever before.

  • Shure E500PTH Sound Isolating Earphones

Posted on April 27th, 2008 Headphones Video No comments

When a product from Shure arrive in the marketplace you know one thing it usually is going to be good and the E500PTH sound isolating earphones were not a disappointment. Most companies that make headphones are just happy with only making cosmetic changes, but Shure is different and it seems they only release a product where it is worthy of being released. This is why the E500 is something that you will want to learn a little more about. Read further to discover if this is a set, you will need to add to your collection.

First glances at the Shure E500PTH you probably notice nothing to special that is until you plug them in and listen to them perform than you get a whole another appreciation of what you are actually getting. First off they are an in-ear style headphone that fits well into your ears. The are comfortable and you can wear them all day long without any worries about them get sweaty or uncomfortable which is something in today’s headphone market it seems is getting tougher to do. Shure claims they block out 90 percent of external noise and I will have to admit it did do an excellent job in that area so that number has to be pretty close. I found that it did a very good job of blocking outside noise and the comfort of the ear pieces into your ear plays a big part in that number that is for sure.

The place where these really excel though is the sound quality. Most of Shure products do sound great, but this one takes you to another level. You can actually feel like your right there. I wanted to see how it would do with a variety of different types of music and I have to admit it did a very good job. Anything I seem to throw at it went through with flying colors and vibrant sounds. It has tight rich bass sound and razor sharp highs were very noticeable and the midrange and clarity was very outstanding. Without a doubt, it has some of the best sound I have heard in a very long time. People have to experience it before they can truly understand how good this set of headphones is.

The E500 cable is durable and is easy to untangle if you ever have the problem but you should not have to work about that at all. Different size earplugs are included so you can get a perfect fit every time. I just used one set and they worked find for me so you should have no problem at all. This model has a remote-size controller that has a built-in microphone. When you activate the switch your audio will fade into the background while the microphone connects you to the external world. It uses an AAA battery to operate the unit so if you want to cut off the music and be able to hear and see what is going around you that is something that you can also do. This is a thing many companies do not give you the option to do, which I wish more companies would. Many times people turn music up to loud and without the ability to be able to communicate to them accidents sometimes result from it. This is why this additional needs to be mandatory in all headphones for at least safety purposes.

Shure has built one of the finest isolating earphones on the market that is for sure. Most companies will leave something out, but Shure has not. They have great sound, comfort all in one package. Yes, it is on the high-end price wise but this model is definitely worth it. If you’re looking for a new set of headphones because you’re set cannot handle a wide variety of music than this is exactly the one you want. If you love pure crisp clean sound than look no, further than this set of headphones. Shure has always made great sounding headphones and the E500 is just going to add to that reputation.

Most people see the price and it is one the high end and will dismiss them as an option, but does not do this as that will be a very big mistake. These isolating earphones are almost perfect in every way and are a perfect addition into any set of headphones that you may be using right now. If you have the money than by all means grab yourself a set of these and take your music to the next level.
