Why Zune 2 Has Soared Over the Original Zune

Zune 2 has been released and Microsoft is hoping for much better results than the original Zune which was pretty much ignored. The second coming is usually better in all aspects and that is true with this model. The first one's design was something that many people really didn't like. It was a durable model, but not something designed with great thought. The second model is much slimmer and seems to be very sturdy. Adding more memory is something that needed to be done and Microsoft obliged by giving you actually three models to choose from, the 4GB, 8GB, or the monster 80GB size. This means more downloads and even greater things you can do with the Zune 2.

The circle replaces the button type interface and makes it easier to operate in my opinion. One of the things that makes this model stands out is the video screen. The larger screen gives the iPod now a run for their money and I'm sure Microsoft thought about them when incorporating that into this model. Improvements needed to be made in other areas if this model was going to compete and some of those problems were also addressed. The software in the original was not very good and an upgrade was granted in that area. Nothing is more frustrating than having to deal with software that just doesn't do the job for you. One nice feature that the Zune 2 has is the Wi-Fi syncing that makes hooking it up to a computer almost effortless. I think it took less than a minute for it to gather the data and be available for downloads. That was impressive.

So, how does the Zune 2 stack up against the competition with all the improvements they have made? Let’s look deeper into that. A bigger screen and much easier software have helped out a lot. Battery life is around 20-22 hours with audio and 6-8 hours with video. More storage space is what it needed and the sound quality is much better than I had anticipated. Microsoft has listened to its customers and has really upgraded this model. It's very comparable to everything out on the market right now. They also have included various colors which appeal to many people. Some people though really don't care.

Now that Microsoft has made a product in the Zune 2 that can compete in the marketplace they need to keep improving in area's that it's lacking. One of those is their subscription services. They are decent at best and getting better, but right now Ipod does have a leg up in that arena. Microsoft is making strides to get there. I will give kudos though updates of the Zune 2 are free where other companies many times make you pay extra for them. If you’re looking for a player that can do many things and an iPod isn't something you like than the Zune 2 is something to look at. With new innovations this model is years ahead of the original Zune that really wasn't very good. Hopefully in the future newer models will be released with even better innovations.
