Sony MDR DS 1000- Surrounding Yourself with Great Sound

Surround sound seems to be the newest thing that people love to have in their homes and offices. This type of technology is also coming to the headphone arena as well. Once it becomes big it seems that is just a natural progression that you get. One model that seems to incorporate this very well is the Sony MDR DS1000 with surround sound. Many new ones are coming out with the surround sound, but let’s take a look at the DS 1000 and see how well it does.

At first glance at the Sony MDR DS 1000 the first thing you will want to grab is the plush pads that cover the ear cups. Just touching them you can tell this is going to be one comfortable set of headphones and it doesn’t disappoint in the area one little bit. I can see you wearing these for hours with no adverse effect at all that’s how comfortable these are. The over the head types of headphones seem to becoming rarer and it’s a shame, but this model goes back to that and is very adjustable. An 11 ½ feet cord means you will be able to travel around the room without any trouble at all. This is a plus especially if you’re doing other things besides just listening to music. I don’t know how many times a short cord means I have to keep taking them off and on to get other things done. This is annoying so the longer cord should greatly reduce this problem if not eliminating it all together.

The surround sound worked well on this as you hook up the digital processor that gives you the feel of music all around you. Clarity and output were good, but nothing that would totally blow you away which sometimes can be good in a way. Too much of a thing takes you away from enjoying the musical experience anyways. The surround sound worked nicely so I didn’t have any real complaints there. With audio out response bandwidth of 12-22,000 Hz and frequency response of 12 Hz-22,000 kHz the sound we got was really expected. One thing is for sure with Sony products you’re going to get a quality product and this is that. It works well and sounds very good and should make most users happy. Getting use to the surround sound will take the novice listener time to get use to.

Overall this surround sound unit from Sony does what it’s expected to do. With a mid range price it’s affordable for most people and that is a very good selling point for it, the DS 1000 does a very good job in all areas and especially on the comfort level. If you’re going to listen to music for hour after hour than you want something that is very comfortable, this model does that. Toss in surround sound and you have yourself a complete system that will take your listening to the next level. Now surround sound may not be for everyone and this may not be your cup of tea. The price makes it affordable to see if you may want to enter this new phase of the way we listen to music. I guess we will see if it really takes off. The DS 1000 though is a good starting point to see if it’s for you.
