Sennheiser PC 166 USB - Using a Headset for More than For Just the Office

I've never really been a fan of the headset even though sometimes I will use one for many different things for my job in the office. When someone tossed me the Sennheiser PC166 USB, I thought what the heck I will give it a try and see what it's like. Who knows I may even take a liking to them. I have always been a little skeptical of using a headset type of headphone, but coming from Sennheiser I figured it should be a quality product as they are known for their innovations.

One of the first things I noticed about the PC166 USB was it reminded me more for a gamer than an office worker. Than after digging a little bit come to find out the design and testing was done by people who play video games. This could be why some of the design was targeted a certain way I don't know for sure. I will admit the design was nice not to assuming and having its own USB sound card and noise reducing microphone was a nice touch. One of the first things I did like on this model was the extra long cord it had. If you’re working in an office or even at home sometimes the extra cord is a godsend. This one should give you no problems in that area. They also included a wrapping device which lets you wrap some of the cord up if you like.

Inline volume control and a microphone on/off switch is something which seems to work very well too. Two stereo jacks for both the headphones and microphone are attached and by having the USB sound card as an option you are in total control on how you want to use the PC166 USB headphones. The USB adapter gives you good connection and sound quality in case you are not on your own equipment. As everyone knows different equipment can give you different performance so the USB are a nice touch. I was worried how it would feel wearing it on my head. No worries there as it fits exceeding well. The headset is binaural with the cups sitting on the ears instead of them around your ears. It seems to work well and I had no real complaints with it. Adjustments are available on the Sennheiser PC166 USB so that won't be a problem either.

Performance is right up there as with all Sennheiser products. The PC166 USB has great sound clarity and music range is good through all the different levels. The bass isn't as good as on some other models, but it will more than do the job. Over all the sound quality is good and will do the job for you. What makes this model really stand out is the microphone for me. I don't know how many times that part usually fails headphones, but not here that's for sure. This product produces in all ranges and with the Sennheiser reputation you sure can't go wrong with the PC166 USB.
