The QZ/900 is the latest addition to the Koss Quiet Zone line and adds a new level of performance and comfort.

The electronics package inside each Koss QZ/900 is designed to monitor outside noise received through specifically mounted microphones in each ear cup. Once this incoming noise can be analyzed, the Koss QZ/900 circuit introduces a sound wave that is 180 degrees out of phase with the incoming signal.

The result is what engineer's term "zero earth" at the point of the eardrum. This means that most low frequency distractions from an airplane, lawn mower, fan, or even the din of an office can de dramatically reduced.

Once the QZ/900 reduces the outside noise, the Sound of Koss takes center stage. Deep rich lows and sparkling highs in a stereophone you'll want to take along everywhere. In fact the noise cancelling ability is so good in the new QZ/900 that you'll find less need to turn up the volume and overdrive the tiny amplifier in your portable electronics. This means greater efficiency, less distortion and all the excitement of a live performance.

The QZ/900 operates with or without its active noise cancelling circuit engaged. A handy removable cord features an in line volume control and one standard AAA battery provides approximately 50 hours of active noise cancellation.

	The noise canceling is not as good as the top-of-the-line models like the Bose QC15s, but it is noticeable, and quite dramatic in the lower register, definitely greatly improving the listening experience. With noise-canceling on, there is a little glitchiness that occurs if you shake them (headbang or go over a noticeable bump in a car) but none without it on and even with, it is still worth it. Even without music playing, the noise-canceling feature proves very useful in situations with loud, low sounds (lawn mower, bus, snow blower, highway) and really puts you in your own little world. With music playing, it can be hard to hear someone talking next to you, and you might find yourself shouting, proving their effectiveness. A solid buy for music-lovers, but not the best on the market.

	We purchased the Koss 160078 headphones for laboratory use only (not for listening to music). Our lab has a variety of noise and these headphones work very well for continuous mid to low frequency cancellation. High frequency noise (> 2000 Hz) is not canceled much. The other good feature is that even with the noise cancellation feature on you can hear relatively normal conversations.
